* So you agree huh? Combined they are still cheaper than my cheapest Seiko, the SNE 107:
The Seiko is a pleasant reminder of the upturn in my financial struggle and the beginning of my recovery from Bipolar. So it's a very sentimental piece.
Right now I am wearing the SNE 451 on my left and the SNE 107 on my right. They are relics from a different era. The model below is my legacy to the Rolex Submariner and the Ball Master Engineer. It's a reminder that once in my life I was a high flyer and a seafarer adventurer.
The Casios are a Yin and Yang between two polarities. I like it a lot:
- The earliest and the latest
- Basic and ultimate
- Positive and negative display
- Cheapest and most expensive G-Shock I own
- Limited Edition and Special Edition
- Overt and covert
- Rubber and metal bracelet
- Classic and modern
- Battery and Tough Solar
I can't use the Multi Band 6 though. Luckily it syncs with the smartphone. If the Seikos are my affinity to the sea, the square Casios are my appreciation of NASA and space exploration.
Casio G-Shock DW-5035B-1D
RM147.16
Casio G-Shock GW-B5600HR-1D
RM598
I looked around and concluded that this the best combination for me to settle with.
-------------------
This will be the ending with a bang. Let put a stop to all of these from here on. So I have to put a cap to my spending.
No buying of:
- Earphone - totally unnecessary. That 1 hour of exercise is my quiet time
- Lobster and steak - ultimate wastage. I ate stake and lobster before
- Office chair - nothing wrong with the current chair except it's old
- Supplement - all it takes is eat a balance diet. Add butter and vitamin C
- Swimming - I got the elliptical machine and the kettlebell that I don't use
I tried to buy experience instead of things but I guess the things that I bought give me a lasting experience than the experience like fucking, massaging, going to the movies and eating.
The thing is money is to buy stuff and owning stuff is a good experience. In other words, within a reasonable spending range, things that I bought makes me feel good. The caveat it I should live below my means.
I am pretty sensible though. I do not dip into my savings. I just blow my buffer. After this I will build back my buffer. That is the money I intend to spend on Els anyway. Either that or I plan to give my mom RM1000.
Now that I spend all my buffer, there is no other way for me but to save. Meanwhile I complete my watch collection and I put a cap on my indulgence.
It will take me 9 months to save again. I think I can do it. As I progress, I need less and less items to buy.
These are all rationalizations. I can take an opposite view. I already got the Mudman and the Indulgence. I got the SNE 107 and the SNE 451. However I have money to spend. I might as well complete my collection. However as promised, I do a 1 week cooling of period. If by November I still feel like buying the Special Edition, I will proceed with the purchase.
--------------------
Well I don't have to wait for a week to decide. After further research, I can confirm that:
- NEGATIVE DISPLAY IS A PAIN IN THE ASS
- The price is way over my range (it is more than doubled the price of the Mudman and quadrupled the price of the Limited Edition)
- I already got my vanity all black G-Shock Indulgence with the nuisance negative display
- The Limited Edition is really the best decision I ever made on a watch
- A bracelet is not meant for a sport watch
- I cannot use the the Multi Band 6
- I don't need the 5 reminders
- I don't need 5 world times
- I already got the Garmin 25, my PC and my handphone to sync with the atomic time
- I don't need a handphone finder
- I don't need to sync from my watch to my handphone
- Even if I want an all black Casio, I can get the CASIO G-SHOCK DW-5600HR-1ER for RM264
There... Back to basics. Between looks, and practicality, I choose practicality anytime. It's like fucking. Between a drop dead gorgeous girl who is a lousy lay and a dog who is a nympho, I choose the dog anytime LOL.
Now, here I am having the iconic Limited Edition a[s] a fraction of a price and exceeds all my buying criteria. Why would I spoil the experience by getting an impractical alternative just because I have the extra cash? I am a collector, not a hoarder. So one iconic square Casio is already meeting my requirement without burning a hole in my pocket. It makes the Limited Edition the darling of my collection, the cheapest and the most historically significant.
I should be thinking about replenishing my buffer instead of wiping it out.
------------------
What I like about this whole exercise is although I spend considerable amount of time researching and deciding on a petty purchase, my satisfaction lies on my ability to think rational again. I am not hasty and gullible. It also proved that the internet is a valuable tool to help me in my critical thinking.
Most importantly, I save RM600. That is worth 3 months of savings. Gosh I should focus my mind on saving rather than spending from now on.
Overall, it is a good exercise in frugality and smart spending.
Now I know for sure that the Limited Edition is the final closure on my journey as a shopaholic. It's a worthwhile effort on my part. I totally enjoy the experience. This will be my benchmark that I have the ability to self-restraint unlike my previous buying experiences where I was compulsive and reckless.
Plenty of lesson learned, the most important will be that I am a sensible person when comes to spending my money. Does that mean I am on the road to recovery? This episode is indeed the proof that I have self-control, discipline and of course the most important of them all, SANITY.
